Apple Watch Series 4 now available to Vitality members to help incentivise healthy behaviour

Vitality has announced an enhancement to its Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit, which aims to promote physical activity and better health for its members.

The new Apple Watch Series 4 will be available from just £99 for VitalityHealth and £159* for VitalityLife members and VitalityInvest members with Vitality Plus who can then fund the remaining balance by getting active, with the potential to reduce all future monthly payments to zero.

The Apple Watch Series 3 will continue to be available at a reduced deposit (£9 and £69** for VitalityHealth and VitalityLife / VitalityInvest respectively). Members who have already engaged with the Apple Watch benefit will also be able to purchase a second watch when they reach the end of their existing loan repayment.

The Vitality Active Rewards programme is designed to work seamlessly with Apple Watch Series 4. Members can track their activity via Apple Watch Series 4 to earn Vitality points, which influences the funding of the Apple Watch. They can also receive notifications to their Apple Watch Series 4 when they unlock Vitality Active Rewards. The Vitality Active Rewards programme also provides members with incentives such as Amazon Prime, Starbucks drinks and cinema tickets when they achieve physical activity goals.

The Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit was launched in the UK in September 2016 and brought together the world’s largest scientific incentive-based activity and health programme, Vitality, with Apple Watch, the world’s most popular smartwatch.

The benefit is underpinned by Vitality’s ‘Shared Value Insurance’ model, which incentivises members to make healthy lifestyle choices for the benefit of both their own long-term health, and society as a whole. The model relies on a strong actuarial, behavioural economic and clinical capability to deliver sustained health and lifestyle improvements over time.

Vitality has seen evidence of positive behaviour change among members who have activated the Apple Watch benefit. More than 80,000 members have taken advantage of the benefit and it has been shown to drive a significant increase in members’ levels of activity, with members recording 40% more physical activity after purchasing the watch.

Nick Read, Commercial Director at Vitality, said: “Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch has been hugely successful. It is a highly popular benefit and has delivered significant value for members, but most importantly, our data shows that members taking up this benefit are improving their health as a result.

“The enhanced Apple Watch benefit will, together with our other improvements to the Active Rewards programme, continue to incentivise healthier behaviour, and deliver shared value for Vitality, our members and society.”
