What is the Vitality Lifestyle Assessment? The Vitality Lifestyle Assessment translates physiological data into personalised insights providing information on how to manage stress, enhance recovery and exercise effectively. By using Firstbeat Technology as a tool to analyse heart rate variability, we inform our approach to help achieve health and performance potential with science-based confidence.
How does the assessment measure your wellbeing? There are a number of stressors in daily life which cause physiological reactions that influence the body. We can see these effects by measuring every heartbeat and the time between beats which is measured in milliseconds.
The variation in time between heartbeats is called heart rate variability (HRV).
Our unique method converts heartbeat data into an easily interpretable form: a personal report about the effects of stress, recovery and physical activity. By recognising the immediate effects of different stressors and lifestyle choices, we can help you to make permanent changes that promote your wellbeing.

What does the lifestyle assessment process look like?Firstly, you’ll receive an introductory presentation explaining the assessment process, how to complete the test and exactly what it will entail. You’ll then complete the test over a period of three days wearing a ‘Bodyguard’ device supplied to you as part of the assessment and post the device back in a pre-paid envelope once completed.
You’ll then receive your personalised report, an example of this can be seen here. There will also be a second presentation explaining how to interpret your results and detailing methods you can use to improve the three areas measured (recovery, exercise and stress). Participants who score below 30 on the overall assessment score will have the option to receive a goal setting call once a month for three months following the assessment to aid them in making positive changes.
After the three-month period, a second device will be sent for all participants to complete a re-test. This time period will allow adequate time for participants to make changes to their health and wellbeing using the advice given during the second presentation. Once the re-test assessment has been completed and posted back, participants will again receive their report and will have the option for a call with a coach to discuss the differences between their first test and re-test.
80% of employees make lifestyle change after the lifestyle assessment1.
What will I know after the assessment? How to manage stress: Recognise activities that cause stress and learn how to better manage these in everyday life.
How to enhance recovery: See how you recover during the day and night and learn how to better recover in future.
How to exercise right: Understand the effects of physical activity and how you can manage your own activity to achieve the best possible results.
How can my company benefit from this?If you are an employer purchasing this for staff, once your employees have completed the assessment, we will also produce an anonymised group report that demonstrates how your staff perform in terms of exercise, stress and recovery. This can help influence your health and wellbeing strategy as an organisation moving forwards. We can run through this report with you after the second presentation has been conducted and also suggest elements of the Vitality Programme that may help with improving the results. There are many ways to increase the performance of your employees but the Firstbeat lifestyle assessment has been shown to achieve wellness programme engagement rates of up to 88%, have 85% of employees experience an increase in their work efficiency and also reduce sick days by up to 30%1.
