Week 10: Your race day essentials for the Vitality London 10,000
The event is almost here! Make sure everything goes to plan by packing these essentials, so that you feel prepared, confident and ready to run
After 10 weeks of training, the big day is finally in sight.
Whether it’s your first 10K or your fiftieth, feeling prepared can make all the difference.
To help you feel calm, confident and ready to soak up every moment, we’ve put together a race day checklist – with a little expert input from Vitality’s Head of Physical Activity, Jonny Kibble.
Your race day checklist
1. Your bib number
This is your ticket to the start line, so make sure it’s pinned to the front of your running top. If it hasn’t arrived by 5pm 23 September, you can fill in this replacement pack form which will enable you to collect a replacement from the Information Point in Green Park on Saturday 27 September 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00.
2. Running kit
Lay everything out the night before: top, shorts or leggings, socks, and your trusty running shoes. If rain’s on the cards, pack a waterproof layer too.
3. Snacks and hydration
Bring along any snacks or energy gels you’ve trained with, plus a water bottle to stay hydrated before and after the race. There’ll be a water station on route and water at the finish line, but it’s always handy to have your own.
4. Travel and timing
Plan your journey ahead of time and aim to arrive early. With road closures in place, public transport is your best bet. The Participant Guide has all the info on nearby stations and arrival times.
5. Friends and family
Don’t forget your cheer squad! Having loved ones on the sidelines can give you a real boost when you need it most.
6. Post-race comfort
Pack a change of clothes, a warm layer and something to sit on for your celebrations in Green Park.
Final tip from Jonny
“Preparation is key. Pack your kit the night before, double-check your bib number and don’t forget to bring your support crew – they’ll help carry you through those final metres.”
