Key takeaways:

  • Employers are up against increased costs and economic uncertainty.
  • Vitality business health insurance provides access to PMI and discounts on lifestyle brands.
  • Here’s three ways staff can get more from their Vitality plan.

As the days get longer and lighter, your employees may be looking for opportunities to get outside, enjoy some fresh air and socialise with others.

Employers will also be thinking about how they can support their staff to do the same – whether it’s organising social events or offering workplace interventions that support them to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

However, at a time where businesses are up against increased costs and economic uncertainty[1], it’s possible employers will want to maximise the value they’re getting from their workplace health propositions.

With a Vitality business health insurance plan, your employees will get access to a comprehensive employee benefits package.

Beyond health insurance, the Vitality Programme will also give your employees access to discounts on gym memberships, sports gear and spa days.

As such, employees can get access to the perks and benefits that they want and need, and employers can provide an integrated solution that supports wellbeing and encourages healthy habits at the same time.

A growing demand for employer-led support

Workforces are increasingly turning to their employers for greater support.

With 63% of staff wanting their firm to do more to support their health[2], holistic health and wellbeing benefits like those offered through the Vitality Programme could be game-changing.

Not only can they help your employees to live in better health, but the rewards and incentives can offer upfront, tangible value for workforces and employers.

Below, we share three ways that employees can get more value from their plan – and how you, as an employer, can maximise the impact of your health and wellbeing proposition.

1.  Eating better

We hear a lot about how it’s not always easy to maintain healthy eating habits – but nutrition plays a key role in overall health and wellbeing.

This is why food-related rewards are particularly topical right now. Vitality members can get up to 25% cashback on selected healthy food items at Waitrose & Partners when shopping online or in-store*. For your staff, this could be a great way to fuel up on healthy food at lunchtime or enjoy with family and friends after work.

Members can also access discounts at Mindful Chef, helping to make healthy eating easy by delivering fresh recipe boxes and the Ready to Go range straight to your door.

No matter how your employees choose to spend their break, having lunch with colleagues is a great way for teams to step away from day-to-day tasks and connect with peers in a more relaxed setting. When members get active, they can also unlock savings at itsu.

Additionally, as part of the Vitality Spring launch, from the end of March 2026, members can get rewarded with savings on the specially curated PizzaExpress x Vitality range when they get active.

The range includes a choice of lighter options, alongside other selected dishes, which can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet. There’s plenty to choose from, making it a great option for your next team get-together.

2. Getting active

The benefits of getting more active are well known. For example, Vitality’s Habit Index tells us that walking 7,500 steps five or more times a week is associated with an overall mortality risk reduction of 27%[3].

Despite the benefits, it might not always feel easy to get active or maintain habits like walking or running more. This is where incentives and rewards can be really powerful when it comes to changing behaviours and forming healthy habits that last.

Through the Vitality Programme, members can unlock great rewards to choose from when they get active, like savings on handcrafted drinks, cinema tickets, and fitness trackers. Shortly, we’ll be making step targets more personalised to help less active members to engage and get rewarded. Step targets will gradually adjust to help our members build lasting healthy habits.

Plus, thanks to Vitality’s new reward partner ASICS, members will soon be able to access discounts on selected apparel and shoes, getting them the gear they need for their future walks, runs or gym sessions. This is in addition to the current running shoe benefit from SportsShoes.com.

Members can benefit from a discounted gym membership at Vitality partner gyms, including Virgin Active, PureGym and Nuffield Health, helping them to stay active in a way that suits them.

With the warmer weather on its way, employers can also help encourage employees to get more active by setting up run clubs, team sports days or encouraging walking meetings, helping to keep them motivated and support them to form healthy habits that they can get rewarded for.

3. Take a break

With summer fast approaching, and the pressures of daily life showing no signs of slowing down, it’s possible some employees will be feeling the strain.

Taking time out to rest, recharge and recuperate is essential for employee health and wellbeing but, for many, the cost can simply feel out of reach.

With Vitality, employees can save money on hotels and spa stays through the likes of Expedia, Mr & Mrs Smith and Champneys, giving them a chance to enjoy a well-deserved break.

Of course, downtime can look different from person to person. For some, it could be a long bike ride in the park but for others it could mean putting a few holes on the golf course after work.

Whatever their preference, Vitality members will soon be able to access discounts on bikes and bike accessories from the likes of Trek and Brompton and golf gear and apparel from Peter Millar, G/FORE and Callaway, alongside a 12-month premium subscription to VPAR.

These discounts can help employees to take the time that they need, do something they enjoy and get something tangible back from their insurance plan.

For employers, they’re able to maximise the impact of their wellbeing proposition and help their employees to be happier and healthy which is a win-win for all.
