Fact from fiction: Menopause myths busted with Gabby Logan and Peppy
This World Menopause Day, we asked the experts to separate fact from fiction around the so-called ‘change’ to help bust some menopause myths

“When I was growing up there was this sitcom version of the menopause,” recalls broadcaster and Vitality representative, Gabby Logan, in a recent conversation.
“There were two symptoms: woman having hot flushes or throwing a chicken dinner at the wall.“
However, considering that more than 90% of women were never taught about it at school [1], it’s unsurprising that so many menopause misconceptions have swirled around society in recent times.
And, given that 60% of women still do not feel informed about the menopause, it’s clear that many are going through it as if they’re in the dark [2], a terrifying prospect.
“There are so few women for which those are the only two things happening,” Logan explains.
“Some may not even be getting hot flushes; others may not even be that enraged”

Thankfully, as Logan points out, myths such as these are being busted left, right and centre, especially recently as the conversation has opened up around it.
After all, like with most health issues, everyone is different and there’s no one-size fits all, especially when it comes to the menopause.
For example, you may not realise it is still possible to get pregnant during the so-called ‘change’, or the young ages at which some people start experiencing perimenopausal symptoms.
In this short video, Logan joins Laura Carter-Penman, a menopause expert at Vitality partner Peppy, to uncover some of the common misconceptions to help those going through menopause (and those around them) feel as informed as possible during, what can be, a highly challenging and confusing time for many.
