Is physiotherapy covered by health insurance?

Physiotherapy is included in your core cover
You’ll get up to six physiotherapy sessions included as part of your core cover with Vitality health insurance.

Our Priority Physio Network gives you access to over 5,000 accredited and peer reviewed physiotherapists at over 1,700 locations in the UK. 

Our physiotherapists take a holistic approach to guide you back to health. They assess your individual situation, and provide personalised treatment, such as specific exercises to help relieve your daily pain and discomfort. They also offer advice on how to avoid injuries reoccurring.

Want extra physiotherapy cover? Choose the Out-patient Cover option. You’ll get full cover through our Priority Physio network. Physiotherapy arranged outside of our network is covered up to £35 a session and up to your chosen cover limit.

How it works

If you need to make a claim, we arrange a phone assessment with one of our physiotherapy partners,
which enables them to establish the most appropriate treatment plan for your specific needs, from one or more of the following:

Virtual
rehabilitation

Suitable for minor injuries and to help you manage your recovery in your own time, as quickly and conveniently as possible.

Face-to-face
treatment

If you’re referred for a face-to-face assessment or treatment sessions, your physiotherapist will assess your symptoms and recommend a treatment plan.

Follow-up
treatment sessions

This is where your progress is monitored until you’re discharged.

Yes. If you speak to an adviser from our panel, and they recommend face-to-face treatment, let them know you have a specific physiotherapist or clinic in mind. They’ll be able to confirm if the physiotherapist or clinic are part of our network.
We’ll take care of that for you, by arranging a phone assessment with an adviser from our physiotherapy panel - whether you submit a claim online, over the phone or via a Vitality GP. Our panel will then manage your claim and keep us up to date, so you don’t have to.
In total across our networks, we have 9,750 registered physiotherapists to make sure you get convenient, quick access to treatment. This includes over 5,000 in-network physiotherapists at over 1,700 locations in the UK (source: Vitality data, March 2022). Around 97% of referrals go through either Ascenti or IPRS (source: Vitality data, Jan-Dec 2021).
Whether you’re referred by a Vitality GP, submit a claim online or over the phone, our panel will receive your details as soon as your claim’s been approved. They’ll usually contact you the next working day or sooner.
Yes, you’ll be able to choose the location that’s most convenient for you.
You’ll need to have the Out-patient Cover option to use a physiotherapist outside of our network. This is not included as part of your core cover.

If you have Out-patient Cover option as part of your plan, you can use a physiotherapist outside our network. We’ll cover up to £35 per session as long as the physiotherapist is recognised by us. You’ll need to pay any invoices directly, submit them to us and we’ll reimburse you from your Out-patient Cover limit.

If you need further sessions after your initial number of authorised sessions, you must get a detailed medical report from your treating physiotherapist, so that we can assess if any more sessions are eligible under your plan. Without this, we may not pay for any more.
