Frequently asked questions

Here are a few of the questions we’ve answered for our members

Do you cover cancer drugs that haven't yet been approved by NICE?

If there’s enough evidence of their effectiveness, we cover the use of new drugs or other treatments, even if they’ve not yet been reviewed or recommended by NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
However, we don't cover the use of drugs outside the terms of their licence; or experimental drugs with no evidence of effectiveness; or any treatment not considered clinically appropriate in the UK.

What's the difference between Extended Cancer Cover and Cancer Cover?

All our plans come with Extended Cancer Cover as standard. If you want to reduce your premium, you can choose our Cancer Cover option instead. This has a 12-month limit on the use of biological therapies and a three-month limit on hormone or bisphosphonate therapy when prescribed on their own. These limits apply for the whole of the time you’re covered by us, whether under this plan or any other plan.

Can I receive cancer treatment at home?

We cover the use of eligible home chemotherapy, such as tablets, injections and infusions, as well as biological and bisphosphonate therapies. To give you more choice you can also be treated at home at any point during your care as long as your consultant agrees – for example, you can start treatment in hospital and decide to go home, or vice versa.

Do you provide cover for all types of cancer?

Yes. We also provide cover for primary and any secondary cancers, if your cancer spreads during treatment.

My family has a history of cancer - will that affect my premiums?

No, we don’t take family history into account when offering cover.

What if my cancer can't be treated?

If your cancer is no longer treatable, we pay for home nursing care to relieve your symptoms, including pain relief at the end stage, up to a maximum of £1,000 a day for 14 days.
